The story of PB60
A deep, warm, transparent blue prized for darks and glazes - among the most lightfast of the synthetic organics.
How it is made
Indanthrone is synthesised from anthraquinone to produce a deep, warm, very lightfast blue. Milled into oil it yields a transparent, staining colour ideal for rich dark glazes.
In the hands of the masters
A 20th-century pigment with no Old Master history, indanthrone nonetheless lets modern painters recreate the deep, warm blues of indigo and Prussian without their drawbacks.
